Participants from several countries and different research fields, related to DCH, spent three days learning about imaging techniques and their application in the field of archaeological artifacts.

The workshop also included a session on High-Performance Computing (HPC) and boosting application performance through parallelization. In addition to regional participants, local researchers whose work pertains to the domain of imaging historical artifacts, most notably researchers of underwater archeology, attended the workshop.

The event covered both theoretical and practical aspects of the topics discussed. Each topic was explained through presentations followed by practical hands-on sessions. In addition, the participants were introduced to professional systems and projects, which used the different techniques discussed.

Presentations on imaging were delivered by the BA’s visualization and imaging team, while the HPC session was delivered by the BA’s HPC team. Moreover, a presentation by the Cyprus Institute was delivered on using CLOWDER as data repository.

Finally, participants developing applications utilizing the VI-SEEM infrastructure had the opportunity to present their work during the workshop.

After the event, all the training materials were availed through the VI-SEEM portal. Participants were also invited to fill in a detailed evaluation form regarding all aspects covered in the training event. The results showed very high level of satisfaction and positive feedback, which will help the organizers in improving any future events.
